Bilal Bin Saqib, CEO of Pakistan’s Cryptocurrency Council, has suggested using the country’s excess energy resources for Bitcoin mining operations.
This proposal was highlighted during the council’s inaugural meeting on March 21. The formation of the Cryptocurrency Council represents a significant shift from the Pakistani government’s earlier stance on cryptocurrencies.
In May 2023, former Minister of State for Finance and Revenue, Aisha Ghaus Pasha, declared that cryptocurrencies would never be legalized in the country.
In related developments, Pakistan is planning to establish a legal framework for cryptocurrency trading to attract international investment.
