British judge James Mellor has granted approval to freeze Craig Wright’s assets totaling 6 million pounds sterling (approximately $7.58 million), as reported by The Block citing court documents. The decision aims to prevent evasion of legal fees after Wright transferred some assets out of the UK following the court’s rejection of his claim to be the creator of Bitcoin, Satoshi Nakamoto.

Judge Mellor expressed concerns over Wright’s actions, stating, “Of course, this raised serious concerns for COPA that Dr. Wright was implementing loss avoidance measures at trial.”

The COPA v. Wright case, initiated in 2021, was filed by the organization to prevent Wright from suing developers and other members of the crypto community and to challenge his claims to Bitcoin technology’s intellectual property rights.

In March 2024, Judge Mellor not only dismissed Wright’s claim as the creator of Bitcoin but also halted two other cases involving him, including lawsuits against Coinbase and Jack Dorsey’s Block, referring to him as “pseudo-Satoshi.”
