The community of decentralized exchange Uniswap conducted an initial poll concerning a proposal to impose a protocol fee on liquidity providers.
The results were close, with 45.3% voting against the “no fee” option, and the remaining 54.6% split between two options to set the proposed fee to either one-fifth or one-tenth of the pool fee applied to Uniswap v3 pools.
Last month, GFX Labs had proposed that the protocol implement a fee, claiming that Uniswap was in a “strong position” to prove it could generate significant revenues.
Leighton Cusack, a DeFi contributor and co-founder of PoolTogether, expressed his opinion that the “no votes” were not necessarily against the concept of fees, but rather due to the proposed implementation.
He said that any fees collected should be autonomously and programmatically distributed, but this key piece needed to be addressed before he could support it.
