Japanese investment firm Metaplanet has significantly expanded its Bitcoin holdings, now surpassing those of El Salvador.
The firm recently acquired an additional 1,241 Bitcoins, bringing its total to 6,796 BTC. This purchase was made at roughly $101,843 per coin, valuing Metaplanet’s holdings at approximately $707 million.
This marks a major milestone for Metaplanet, as it now holds more Bitcoin than El Salvador. Known for being the first country to adopt Bitcoin as legal tender in 2021, El Salvador has actively bought Bitcoin to diversify its financial reserves. However, Metaplanet’s recent acquisition has exceeded El Salvador’s 6,714 Bitcoin, valued at around $642 million.
Metaplanet’s strategic move reflects a growing trend among institutional investors viewing cryptocurrencies as a viable asset class.
This interest is driven by Bitcoin’s decentralized nature, scarcity, and potential as a store of value. The firm’s aggressive accumulation strategy highlights its strong belief in the future of cryptocurrency.
