Bitcoin “inscription” #70,614,708 made history on the Ordinals protocol by having a file size of 3,969 MB. This exceeded the previous record set by OrdinalsBot in March, which was a maximum of 0.001 MB for Bitcoin “inscriptions.”

The “inscription” is a copy of the “Declaration of Independence in Cyberspace” from Logos Network, according to OrdinalsBot.

The co-founder, Brian Loughlan, clarified that the impressive size of the file is not due to its document length. In fact, in text form, it would only take up 2 kb. However, the project team deliberately posted it as a jpg file with a high resolution to make a bold statement.

Loughlan also mentioned that the maximum block capacity of Bitcoin was increased to 4 MB in 2017 through the Segregated Witness hard fork. Attempting to “write in” something larger would most likely fail, and it is the responsibility of OrdinalsBot to prevent this from happening.

They will only proceed with creating an Ordinal if its size does not exceed 4 MB.
