In the past month, the transaction volume on zkSync Era has surpassed Ethereum, thanks to the increasing popularity of its counterpart, Ordinals.
The L2 network recorded 34.67 million transactions, compared to Ethereum’s 34.16 million. Arbitrum’s transaction volume was 31.43 million. This surge in zkSync activity can be attributed to the recent launch of “inscriptions.”
On December 16, the L2 network saw a record volume of transactions due to the availability of an alternative to Ordinals. According to Hildobby, a Dragonfly analyst, these “inscriptions” accounted for 4.6 million of the total 5.3 million zkSync transactions on that day.
Similar protocols to Ordinals Bitcoin have also been developed on other blockchains such as Ethereum, Avalanche, and Fantom.
It should be noted that on December 25, the production of blocks on zkSync Era was temporarily halted due to a calculation error in the network state update.
