Bitcoin Whitepaper Will Be Removed in Apple’s New MacOS

In April 2021, user bernd178 discovered a nine-page Bitcoin whitepaper buried within the Image Capture Utility of MacOS, which had been included on every Apple Macintosh computer shipped since 2017.

This “Easter egg” went viral after a post by prominent technologist Andy Baio.

However, a study of a beta version of MacOS Ventura 13.4 reveals that the entire Virtual Scanner II tool, containing the image of the San Francisco bay and the PDF copy of the whitepaper, has been removed from the system.

It appears that this feature was included only for testing purposes, with no intention of it being discovered by everyday users. Consequently, the Bitcoin whitepaper will be removed in a forthcoming software update, as reported by 9to5Mac.
