Microsoft founder Bill Gates has said that non-fungible tokens are a “greater fool” scam, Bloomberg has reported.

During a TechCrunch-hosted conference in California, the billionaire has said:

“Obviously, expensive digital images of monkeys improve the world immensely.”

He has added that he does not have any positions in this asset class.

Gates may have alluded to the popular Bored Ape Yacht Club NFT collection from the Yuga Labs team.

Gates had earlier urged potential investors not to follow the example of Tesla, which has invested $1.5 billion in Bitcoin. He has also noted the negative impact of BTC mining on climate change.
