Western Union has moved to secure the “WUUSD” brand, filing a US trademark application on October 29. The move comes just one day after the company unveiled plans to launch a separate stablecoin called USDPT on the Solana blockchain.
According to the filing, the WUUSD mark is intended for use with cryptocurrency wallet software, payment processing, and trading services.
The relationship between the newly trademarked WUUSD and the previously announced USDPT stablecoin remains unclear, suggesting Western Union has multiple digital asset products in development for its planned Digital Asset Network.
