A new report highlights the ongoing threat of insider-targeted phishing attacks after revealing a successful breach at Crypto.com. Hackers from the Scattered Spider gang, led by teenager Noah Urban, compromised an employee account to access user personal data.
This method mirrors other major incidents in the industry, such as when rival exchange Coinbase suffered massive losses after offshore reps were bribed. While Crypto.com stated the leak was limited and no funds were stolen, it demonstrates how employees remain the weakest link in security chains.
The hacker responsible, Noah Urban, was later caught in an FBI operation and sentenced to 10 years in prison, serving as a stark warning to cybercriminals.
