Dutch prosecutors have accused developer Alexey Pertsev, allegedly involved in the laundering of $1.2 billion through a cryptocurrency mixer called Tornado Cash.
Local media has reported that the perpetrator has been involved in 36 illegal transactions according to the prosecution.
One of these transfers, totaling 175 ETH, is linked to the hacking of the Ronin sidechain involved in the blockchain game Axie Infinity in March 2022, resulting in a loss of $625 million.
The indictment also includes the decentralized protocols Harmony and Nomad, which were both targets of hacking. The trial for Pertsev’s case will take place in the Netherlands on March 26.
In August 2022, Tornado Cash was added to the OFAC sanctions list for allegedly being involved in the laundering of criminal funds exceeding $7 billion. The developer, Pertsev, was arrested in the same month and placed under house arrest in April 2023.
