Actor and comedian Larry David has expressed regret over his decision to star in FTX’s 2022 Super Bowl commercial.
He revealed that he had consulted with friends before agreeing to do the ad, but ultimately made the decision without fully understanding the implications. However, the decision proved to be a costly one, as the commercial, which aired during the Super Bowl on February 13, received a lot of backlash.
The ad was part of a growing trend of cryptocurrency companies advertising during major events, and FTX reportedly paid a record amount for its slot.
In the ad, David’s character critiques various innovations throughout history, including FTX, as he is shown the platform’s mobile application. His response? “But I don’t think so, and I’m never wrong in these matters. Never.”
The commercial ended with the message, “Don’t be like Larry, don’t miss out,” and cost $6.5 million for just 30 seconds of airtime.
However, the entire exchange video was actually 2.5 minutes long. In hindsight, David admitted that he should never have done the commercial and emphasized that he is “never wrong in these matters.”
