On December 7, an NFT user known as OG General purchased one of the early “Inscriptions” from the Honey Badger collection in the Bitcoin blockchain for 10.4 BTC (equivalent to $450,000 at the time).
The purchase was reported by NFT marketplace Magic Eden.
The Honey Badger collection was launched in January and consists of 10,000 serial “letters” numbered from #8 to #1,029,518. Representatives from Magic Eden stated that such transactions “enhance the value of digital artifacts that are permanently inscribed on the Bitcoin blockchain.”
They also referred to OG General as a “legend.” The owner of the purchased inscription commented, “Ordinals cannot be stopped!” Launched in January, the Ordinals protocol allows enthusiasts to store various types of “digital artifacts” on the Bitcoin blockchain, including images, audio, video, text, and even whole applications like a simplified version of Doom.
According to Dune, over 46.5 million inscriptions have been created since the project’s launch, with more than $148 million spent on associated fees.
