Despite claims that it had removed its business from China in late 2017, an internal company document cited by a Financial Times report revealed that top executives at exchange giant Binance, including CEO Changpeng Zhao, had instructed employees to hide its presence in the country.
The report also asserted that the company had used a Chinese bank to pay some employee salaries, as well as an office which was in use until the end of 2019.
Binance has since disputed the claims, stating that they do not operate in China or have any servers based in the country.
They did, however, confirm that they have a customer service call center based in China to service global Mandarin speakers.
