Coinbase Knew of Data Leak Months Before Disclosure

Internal sources reveal that Coinbase was alerted to a major data breach in January—four months before it informed the public.

A June 3 Reuters investigation, citing former TaskUs employees, found that an India-based support agent had stolen customer data by photographing her screen and selling it to hackers.

TaskUs, Coinbase’s outsourcing partner, fired two employees over the breach but had already dismissed over 200 workers in January amid unrelated protests.

The incident, affecting 70,000 users, has now led to a lawsuit against TaskUs in Manhattan federal court.
