On April 8, a Nigerian court addressed the complaint of Tigran Gambaryan, the vice president of global intelligence and investigations for Binance cryptocurrency exchange, who is facing charges of tax evasion and money laundering amounting to $35 million.
Gambaryan denied the accusations and claimed a violation of his rights, while arguing that he should not be held responsible for Binance’s operations in the country.
However, the court dismissed this argument, citing Gambaryan’s past conduct of educational trainings for Nigerian officials as a representative of the exchange.
Consequently, Gambaryan has been detained in a high-security detention center in Abuja until at least April 18. A bail hearing is scheduled for that date.
