Coinbase has joined forces with Africa’s Yellow Card to expand its reach and provide access to its products in 20 African countries with a focus on increasing the usage of USD Coin.
This new partnership aims to advance the future of digital currency by offering millions of users the ability to use USDC for fast, reliable, and cost-effective transactions on Coinbase and Yellow Card’s decentralized, open L2 Base.
According to a statement released on January 11, this collaboration will involve Coinbase integrating Yellow Card’s payment structure in Africa, allowing customers to easily buy and sell both Bitcoin and USDC on the Ethereum layer-2 rollup Base.
This service will be available to African users through Coinbase Wallet, which recently added a new feature enabling transfers through links on popular social media platforms such as iMessage, Telegram, WhatsApp, Facebook, and Instagram.
Along with USDC, Yellow Card CEO Chris Maurice noted that other cryptocurrencies and stablecoins supported by Coinbase will also be incorporated into the system.
