Trader Joe’s, a popular grocery store chain in the US, has taken legal action against DEX Trader Joe’s for trademark infringement.

According to Blockworks, the company has accused DEX Trader Joe’s and its co-founder Cheng Chi Liu of intentionally using a name too similar to their own.

Lawyers involved in the case claim that the DEX platform created a fictional character named “Trader Joe” to closely associate itself with the supermarket brand.

The lawsuit also states that the DEX logo copies the color scheme of the original, with a farmer wearing a red cap, which is the same color as the supermarket chain’s lettering.

Court documents reveal that co-founder Liu is a Chinese citizen residing in Singapore and is listed as the owner of the domain traderjoexyz.com.

The prosecution argues that during the confrontation, representatives of the DEX platform attempted to hide the history and origin of their branding and the character.
