In September 2023, a total of $355 million worth of digital assets was withdrawn from 22 crypto projects by hackers.
According to a report by Immunefi, the third quarter saw a 153% increase in hacker attacks on Web3 projects and ecosystems related to the cryptocurrency market, with a total of 76 incidents. During this period, cybercriminals were able to steal a total of $686 million in digital assets.
The biggest attack occurred on the Mixin protocol on September 25, where hackers were able to steal tokens worth approximately $200 million.
The North Korean group Lazarus was responsible for stealing $208 million in digital assets from users of platforms such as CoinEx, Alphapo, Stake, and Coinspaid.
A study showed that up to 30% of the stolen assets in the third quarter were taken by Korean hackers.
In terms of the number of hacks, the most affected blockchains were Ethereum and Binance Chain, with the third and fourth spots occupied by the Base and Optimism networks, as highlighted by the researchers.
